Looking for a design idea? Riff on this one. (Each month we will select a new historical poster and challenge you to work with its themes and/or visual language):
We love the strong central figure in this poster and the direct appeal to the viewer to inspect his or her own actions. This is an unadulterated guilt trip. Think about whether or not such an appeal will work in today’s advertising climate. What is your alternative?
Following is a list of other actions you may consider when making a poster:
- Driving less; riding a bike or walking
- Switching to CFL light blubs
- Donating money to relevant non-profit
- The fictional idea of Green Bonds (cf. war bonds, but instead of paying for war effort; paying for buildings renewable energy infrastructure, including grid).
- Signing up for renewable energy through your power company (cf www.newwindenergy.com/canary)
- Hang drying your clothes
- Creating a green roof
- Victory gardens
- Buying/eating local
- Buying a hybrid car
- Reduce, reuse, recycle
- Using a mug, tote bag or other item that reduces waste
- Insulating home
- Using less AC
- Turning down heat
- Installing solar panels or other renewable energy alternatives
- Starting a recycling program at your work
- Any of the above, but applied to workplace rather than home
- Making sure tires are properly inflated
- Not idling car
