buying local reduces our carbon footprint, bolsters local industry, and focuses us on healthier and more ethical food choices.the design of "buy local" was also inspired by the fact that over the decades, my family's farmland had been purchased by Detroit Metro Airport. in the past few years, the airport bought the last parcel (my great-uncle's land) subsequently ending my family's farming history. the family farm that is now the airport was a place extend family sent their children to be fed during the Great Depression and my grandmother raised her family while my grandfather was off at war (WWII). the land is the definition of who she saw her family - farming people. "fresh air" is a double entendre of environmental impact for both the physical acquisition of land by the airport as well as that of flying food and produce around the globe. "farm fresh" highlights the critical choice to eat healthier and more ethically.finally, "buy local" is optimistic. the reclaiming of our industry and environment. inspired by my grandmother's attitude, aesthetic, and era.~ jessica colaluca, principal designer at seed
