I am not an Al Gore fanatic, but this refers to what I think is one of the most important things he has done, and part of why he won the peace price. People aren't getting the important reference here, and perhaps that is a failure of the poster. It refers to Al Gore's cleverly putting the climate issue in perspective with humanitarian crises of the past. In particular it harkens back to world war II. He quoted Churchill in his movie: "The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close. In its place we are entering a period of consequence."
