The poster uses the metaphor of kinship as a strategy for bridging the emotional disconnect that allows for the intellectual abstraction of natural systems and hence their eventual disregard in the mind of the viewer. Through the introduction of familiar emotional tropes, the viewer is invited to view his or her relationship with the natural world as a personal one based on themes of conscience, empathy, sacrifice and commitment.
